When you finally settle down and decide to put your roots down, it’s hard to even consider moving. Farm family roots run even deeper. When a family’s been in the same place for more than 100 years, it seems impossible to ever want to move. Then there are all the questions of what would happen to the farmstead.
What could even make a family consider uprooting their 100-year deep roots? Years of stress, a farm in distress, and looking down the loaded gun of bankruptcy.
There’s the cost of actually moving. Finding a place, land, building if needed. Changing your business plan or starting over completely with a new business. The logistics are really the easy part when you have family and friends with trucks and trailers.
Then there is the internal battle. All the memories you have where you are. All the friends, family, and support you have where you are. Those are the reasons to stay. Those are the pieces, the people, you can’t take all of them with you. But there is the hope of something better someplace else.  The allure of starting over someplace new and building from the ground up. Building correctly.
Even then it’s not easy and sometimes you’re not on the same page as your spouse. One is ready to downsize, pack up and move. The other still rooted to the ground.
What do you do? How do you move together back to alignment?
You pray. Pray for guidance. Pray for God's will. Pray that He would move your hearts and desires to align with His plan. Regardless of if that is staying or moving.
